 On Saturday, September 9, we will celebrate Longview's centennial by presenting the city a 100-year time capsule.
The occasion will be marked by a formal Masonic cornerstone ceremony involving the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Washington and Masons from around the area. Jon Jacobson of Pacific Stainless Products is creating and donating a super cool, polished stainless steel, laser-engraved time capsule for our time capsule event. It will look great! Here we are after opening the niche at City Hall, where the 75th anniversary time capsule was placed late in the last millennium. We're taking measurements (again!). Jon's mock-up is behind him. It fits just fine. Now we're working out the design of the plaque that will go on top. And we need your help! We have a number of objects already but we'd like your ideas and suggestions. What objects represent Longview's past 100 years? What represents Longview now? What do you think Longview will be like in 100 years? Let us know! Send us your ideas at the bottom of our time capsule page. Bonus event! We're going to seal the items in the capsule on Saturday, September 2 - a week before the cornerstone event. The sealing ceremony is by invitation. If your donated object is selected, you're invited to help us out and to sign a signature scroll.  Interested in learning more about the Masonic Family?
Well, this is a great time! The entire Masonic Family of Cowlitz County will be present at the Go 4th Festival from July 2nd through the 4th. The Shriners, Scottish Rite, and York Rite are all Freemason groups that regular members can join. We will even have the ladies of the Order of the Eastern Star and our girl’s youth group, Job's Daughters, there to answer your questions about Masonry for women. We will be near the Sacajawea statue at the footbridge, come say hi! Also don’t forget to look for our float in the parade!  Our first summer BBQ is noon this Sunday!

We had a great first degree this morning, with Brothers from Kelso #94, Longview #263, Castle Rock #62 and Centralia #63 helping out. Brother Steve has already met with his coach and started on his proficiency. We'll have a second degree for him in no time! Our Mother's Day event was a great success.
We had over 40 people attend, representing seven Lodges in two states. We had about four times the attendees as last year's event. After introductions we enjoyed a light lunch, then our raffle drawings.
Each of the ladies got a modest gift bag, which included a packet of forget-me-not flowers. We talked about the Masonic connection with forget-me-nots. For more on that see our MWPGM Cameron Bailey's excellent forget-me-not essay on his Emeth blog. Then came a 50/50 draw (congratulations Mike C!) and lots of visiting. What a great afternoon! The Cowlitz Freemasons Mother's Day event is tomorrow and we have a sold-out event! If you're on our guest list we're looking forward to seeing you. Remember to bring some extra cash - we have a few raffle drawings and a 50/50 draw. See you tomorrow!  Our meeting included the somber, an in-Lodge funeral ceremony for our late Brother George Le Suer. He was raised in November, 1963 and laid down his tools in March, this year.
And our meeting included happier news, the first reading of a petition for the degrees of Masonry. We went light on other Lodge business in order to turn the Lodge over to Brother Ryan Stubbins (Centralia #63 and Little Falls #176). His topic was fascinating - how ancient astronomy is encoded into the symbolism of Masonry. We had a lively discussion on various aspects of his talk and look forward to his next visit.  What does the Hiramic legend have to do with ancient astronomy and the precession of the equinoxes?
